BID4R Lab at the College of Engineering (COE) Industry Advisory Board (IAB) Poster Fair

Exciting Insights from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Department, College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board Poster Fair!

It was that time of the year again when innovation and academia converged at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The annual visit by our esteemed Industry Advisory Board brought forth a captivating poster session hosted by the College of Engineering, and it was nothing short of spectacular!

Representing the College of Engineering, our Electrical, Computer, and Software Systems (EECS) department proudly showcased four remarkable posters and the Biologically Inspired Design-for-Resilience (BID4R) Lab was one of them. These engaging presentations provided a window into the bright minds and groundbreaking research happening right here at Embry-Riddle.

Our lab member James Hand, a second-year Ph.D. student, shared his thoughts on the experience: “It was truly exciting that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University provides us with the platform to engage with industry leaders. We discussed not only the current status of our research but also the exciting pathways our research is paving for the future”.

“An Overview of the Biologically Inspired Design for Resilience Lab Research Pillars” was presented by James HandRogelio Gracia OtálvaroAusten Pallen, and Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo. With unwavering support from our distinguished faculty member, Bryan Watson, P. E., this poster embodies innovation and resilience in the heart of academia.

The poster fair was a testament to the vibrant exchange between our students and industry leaders, and it underlines the incredible potential that thrives within our academic community.

A Glimpse into Our Weekly Lab Meeting

In our Biologically-Inspired Design for Resilience Lab, we learn something new every week. Our weekly group meetings are always interesting where we talked about various research topics, share fresh ideas, and engage in stimulating discussions. Dr. Watson, our dedicated mentor, always introduces captivating papers and topics for discussion, along with fun activities that make our meetings both educational and enjoyable.

In a recent session held in the COE Conference Room, we explored a paper titled “10 Simple Rules for Better Figures” by Nicolas P. Rougier, Michael Droettboom, and Philip E. Bourne, published in the PLOS Computational Biology Journal. Together, we analyzed various figures, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses based on the rules outlined in the paper.

The meeting featured the enthusiastic participation of Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo, Dr. Bryan Watson, James Hand, Rogelio Gracia Otálvaro, Fayruz Maysha, Julia Gorthey, Dmytro Kravchenko, and Austen Pallen (from left to right).

Our collaborative efforts are shaping the future of scientific exploration and creative innovation through biologically inspired designs. If you have any questions or would like to collaborate with us, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
